(1Thessalonians 5v24 NIV)

Whatever our circumstances, however much we doubt, the fact is God assures you that He is always faithful.

The context of 1 Thessalonians 5v24 is about our sanctification and eternal security.

"Faithful is he that calleth you". Paul knows that his prayers were always heard by God. He followed God's calling and did his best to obey his Lord. He knew by personal experience that God is faithful to fulfill all His promises.

Are you following God’s calling for your life? Has Romans 8v30 grabbed your attention? Do you realise that your personal calling into salvation is the beginning of a process leading to glory - yes glory in His eternal presence. God's love will keep you and sustain you. If you read on into v31 you will find that great wonderful promise of God to you:- "What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?" Paul knew this as a personal experience and a promise to hold onto.

Can you hold onto such a promise in times of trouble and adversity? Elsewhere Paul was able to assure believers that God will preserve them blameless unto the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. I sometimes use the words of Jude v24 as a benediction to remind congregations that our God is faithful and will see us through as we follow His word and His calling.

Paul’s closing instructions to the whole church, leaders and people alike, were that they should live according to the teaching they had received, joyfully, with continual thanksgiving, and prayer.

If we live without the fullness of the word of God and the Holy Spirit in our hearts, then we will never realise our full potential in the things of God, and in our daily lives. However we cannot rely on some vague inner feelings or even a word from someone else. Paul tells his hearers, and us, to test everything. The Scriptures  are our final authority, not our feelings, nor the well intentioned words or encouragements or even discouragements from others.

He's called you, He'll sustain you. On that great last day you'll find that you are complete in Him; in fact you are complete in Him now and every day as you rely on Him for guidance, direction and faithfulness to His word. What a reassurance! What a promise! What a faithful God we have!

The words of that beautiful song by Brian Doerksen remind us of His faithfulness in every situation:

Faithful one, so unchanging
Ageless one, you're my rock of peace
Lord of all I depend on you
I call out to you, again and again
I call out to you, again and again
You are my rock in times of trouble
You lift me up when I fall down
All through the storm
Your love is the anchor
My hope is in You alone
